Professional Experience

Sole Proprietor, PWT Communications, Boulder, CO (previously in Fremont, CA, Knoxville, TN, and Evergreen, CO). Manage technical communications and publishing enterprise with associate writers, editors, and graphic artists. Analyze communication needs of clients and produce annual reports, proposals, and scientific papers, and books. Research, write, and edit scientific and technical material. Extensive work with researchers in various scientific and engineering disciplines including study of the space environment, geophysics, geology, semiconductor materials, atmospheric science, renewable energy (wind energy, photovoltaics, biomass power, solar power, etc), energy conservation, building energy systems, and others. Recent work includes providing Secretariat and editing services to the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics and the International Energy Agency Implementing Agreement on Wind Energy. 1985 to present. Coordinator, SOARS® Writing and Communication Workshop, University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR), Boulder, Colorado. Coordinate 8-week summer writing workshop for 24 Protégés, who come from groups traditionally under represented in undergraduate and graduate programs in atmospheric sciences. The undergraduates and graduate students work at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) or nearby research institutes for 10 weeks during the summer. Hired and supervised 20 employees in two offices, negotiated facilities leases and purchases, conducted performance reviews and several terminations. Worked with attorneys and safety engineers to develop and write hazards analyses, recommendations to management, instruction manuals, and refereed research papers; applied military standards to develop curricula for safety training including workbooks and audio visuals; conducted safety training seminars. 1980 to 1983. Project Manager, Wind Energy Technical Information Dissemination, Solar Energy Research Institute, Golden, Colorado. Initiated and managed a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) technology transfer project.
